Tanning Tips

Tips to achieving an amazing sunless tan!

PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT

  • If possible schedule your tan 48 hours before your event. You want to have plenty of time for the tan to develop and time to rinse.

  • Shave/Wax- One day prior to your tan. You want your pores to be closed to ensure an even tan. Shave using a disposable razor (no moisture strips) this wall cause streaking!

  • EXFOLIATE!!! This is the most important step! We recommend using a body mitt (inset the one I sell). Scrub your entire body. If you don't have a body mitt use a mild, oil free, non-abrasive exfoliator.

  • WEAR-this is also very important! NO YOGA PANTS OR SKINNY JEANS after a spray tan. wear loose dark clothing after your tan. The cosmetic bronzer that is in the tan may rub off but will wash off. It's also ideal to wear sandals. *Weather- be aware! you cannot get wet until after you rinse.

  • Make sure your body is free of makeup, lotions, and deodorant. These may cause discoloration

POST TAN

  • Following your tan its best to wait 8-12 hours before showering OR 4-6 hours for rapid. The longer you leave it on, the darker it will develop. For rapid tans, your tan will continue developing after you shower.

  • AVOID WATER!! Avoid contact with water while your tan is developing. ie. washing hands, inclement weather, working out.

  • Showering- you will see the bronzer wears off. Don't freak out! Your tan is still there. If you chose the rapid solution your tan may look light but it will continue to develop. We recommend to use a spray tan safe body wash (we sell one). NO BAR SOAPS! No scrubbing or exfoliating. Avoid long hot showers/baths.

  • Chlorine/Saltwater will shorten the duration of your tan. We recommend buying an extender if you will be in the water or sun. An extender will lengthen the life of your tan. (insert one we sell)

  • Tan last about 5-10 days depending on care. We sell tan extenders for lengthen the life of your tan.

  • Always apply SPF! When choosing a sunscreen that won't harm your spray tan, there are 2 ingredients you want to avoid: oil and alcohol. Alcohol and the types of oils used in sunscreens are NOT moisturizing and will break down your tan! Unfortunately, most sunscreens contain at least one, if not both of these ingredients. We recommend (insert Coola Sunscreen).

  • When your tan starts to fade you can use a body glove to scrub remaining parts of your tan off. (insert Dermani glove)

FAQs

Will my tan turn orange?

Eyeroll! NO!! This is the first question ever new tanner asks. The 'orange' effect started back in the day when DHA was new and bring blended into self tanners. As technology and products became more advanced, this issue began to decrease. No orange tans here!!!

How long will my tan last?

On average 5-7 days. as long as your skin stays moisturized and products with harsh chemicals, exfoliants and bleaching ingredients are avoided. To get the most out of your tan, ask about our spray tan safe products that are specifically designed for sunless tanning. Using these recommended products will not only provide longer lasting results, but also more natural and even fading.

What do I wear?

While being sprayed: You can wear what ever makes you comfortable. Some women go nude, some an old bra and undies, most wear just a thong and go topless. Just know whatever you keep on you will have a tan line.

(For men, we require trunks or briefs of some kind.)

Afterwards: You will want to wear loose, dark clothing.

How long does it take?

I schedule your appointment for 30 minutes. A full body tan takes around 15 minutes. Contouring services can take a little longer.

Will I ruin my tan if I sleep in it?

If you plan to allow your tan to develop overnight then we suggest wearing a long sleeve top and long pants to bed, in order to avoid skin to skin contact. Any skin to skin contact will create friction on the skin, which creates sweat, which will not allow your tan to set- this also means no skin to skin contact with anyone else’s skin :)
